The last part of the West of Fife Railway and Harbour, from Lassodie Mill Colliery (also known as Viewfield) to Kelty, was opened in 1863 by the North British Railway after their take over of the company in 1862. This completed a largely single track mineral only secondary line stretching all the way from Dunfermline to Kelty which served a series of coal mines. This view looks north west to the site of Kelty station from the Great North Road bridge which crossed the mineral line. Behind the camera, and across the road, were Lindsay Pits (No 4 and 5). The substation in the background was by Kelty station.
