![]() Newark Northgate: Dusk at Newark Northgate sees East Midlands Trains 153310 just arrived at the island platform of this rebuilt and modernised station. This view looks south along the East Coast Main Line. Mark Bartlett [24/10/2009] |
![]() Heriot: An EE type 4 brings a freight, (carrying members of Edinburgh University Railway Society) through Heriot station in December 1968. What appears to be a white circle on the front of the locomotive is in fact a bung, inserted into the hole which had been bored to accommodate a cable for communication with the loco crew on the occasion of a previous Royal Train assignment. Bruce McCartney [/12/1968] |
![]() Trumpington: Old and new fencing just outside Cambridge on the Bedford line. Out of picture to the right, a large ^park and ride^ facility has been built over the trackbed, followed by the M11. But all is not lost.... Ken Strachan [13/04/2009] |
![]() River Stour Viaduct: This photograph shows the remains of the East Kent Light Railway^s viaduct over the SER and River Stour en route to Richborough Port. The East Kent Light Railway arrived just at the end of WW1 as the port lost its significance, so it was little used. Michael Butterworth [22/09/2008] |

![]() Lime Kiln Junction: This junction, at a level crossing with a signal box and a helpful, friendly signalman, was where the Oakdale line (formerly Hall^s Tramroad) joined the line to Ebbw Vale. I miss the heavy freight in South Wales, but not the rain. The 56 is heading South with a loaded MGR. These trains used to run East through Newport at about 6.30 at night. It all came to a halt when the colliery closed in 1989. Ken Strachan [//1988] |
