Partickhill: The bridge across Dumbarton Road, between the old Partickhill station and the site of what is now Partick, was replaced in 1973. This photo was taken shortly after the new span was lowered into place.

Cranley Gardens: View from a no.134 bus on Muswell Hill Road, about to cross the old Alexandra Palace branch, where the bridge parapets still exist, on 22nd April 2024. This line opened in 1873 but closed in 1954, after almost becoming part of the Northern Line. Cranley Gardens station, not opened until 1902, was on the left and survived in a derelict condition until demolished in the 1970s. A block of flats built on the site was demolished in 2023. From here to Muswell Hill the trackbed is now the second part of the Parkland Walk. Access is from a ramp on the left behind railings where the station entrance was.

Moncrieffe Tunnel: North, Central & South Air Shafts of Moncrieffe Tunnel on 27th April 2024. Network Rail have used the central Air Shaft to put monitoring equipment in the tunnel. South Air Shaft is in the field behind Craigend cottages. [Note that the local spelling is Moncreiffe, but the railway uses Moncrieffe.]

Carstairs: Network Rail has announced plans for a new footbridge at Carstairs station. The project will also see a lift installed in the station to improve accessibility, particularly for those with reduced mobility and those travelling with luggage, prams or bikes. Funded by the Scottish Government, the £1.85m investment will enable passengers to move from street to platform at the South Lanarkshire station without the need to use stairs. Work is now underway to install the new bridge which will connect on to the island-platform at the station from the village’s Strawfrank Road. It is scheduled to be completed by September this year and follows significant platform improvements in 2023.

Regua: CP Rail 1424, built by English Electric, arrives in Regua with my train for a ride up the Douro Valley to Pocinho on a very hot day in April 2024.

Niddrie Landsale Yard: On a misty and cold 31st December 1968, NCB no. 25 propels a rake of loaded wagons up the steeply graded line from the BR exchange sidings at Niddrie to the Landsale Yard.

Dalmeny Junction: View north towards the Forth Bridge, with trains to and from Fife about to pass near Dalmeny Junction, on a summer morning in 2008. On the right is the trackbed of the former South Queensferry branch, now a public walkway. Dalmeny station can just be seen in the distance.

Raven Rock Summit: Black 5 No. 44871 powering up the gradient to 'Raven Rock Summit' with 'The Great Britain XVI' excursion to Kyle of Lochalsh. 47802 is on the rear. Unfortunately the low position of the sun precluded a shot in the other direction.
