Castleton East Junction: A pair of Northern Class 158s pass Castleton East Junction as they approach the station working from Wigan Wallgate to Leeds on 17th April 2024. The mechanical signal box still stands, and appears to still control some points and shunting signals in what remains of the nearby sidings. The line curving right by the box is the East Junction to North Junction spur, leading on to Heywood for access to the East Lancashire Railway. Another spur from North Junction to South completes the triangle and is also still operational for ELR access.

Birmingham Moor Street: It was not a good idea to say to a Victorian architect, 'Don't do anything fancy with that corridor, it only goes to the toilets'. He would just ignore you. The train in the background is picking up passengers for Kidderminster, or thereabouts.
