Maynooth: Maynooth looking east. Unfortunately unable to get a seat on either of the Midlander excursions, we took the service train which preceded the morning excursion to Maynooth. I had just walked back the length of the train to the east end of the platform when GNR(I) 131 came into view heading downhill into the station. 24 March 2024

Gospel Oak: Transport for London are making sure everyone will know that the Overground lines are to be named and the Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside line, affectionately nicknamed the GOBLIN for over 40 years, will become (ridiculously in my view) 'The Suffragette Line' as per this platform notice at Gospel Oak on 17th February 2024. The adjacent Overground line from Stratford to Richmond/Clapham Junction will be the 'Mildmay Line' and another notice to this effect was displayed in the ticket hall. The change is costing £9.3 million as maps, diagrams and station signs will have to be amended. Money that could be better spent on bringing the Central and Bakerloo Line back from the doldrums, especially the latter where passengers continue to travel in moth-eaten 52 year old trains, the oldest on the Underground, that were out-of-date 20 years ago.

Paisley Gilmour Street: Paisley Gilmour Street station’s B-listed railway bridge has been given a new lease of life by Network Rail. That’s after engineers completed girder repairs on the underside of the structure to strengthen it and extend its lifespan by another 25 years as part of a £500,000 investment. The single span bridge, which dates back to 1840, is 18.2 metres long and carries the Ayr and Gourock lines over Gilmour Street. Work finished today (Friday 15 March) following a two-month programme where the brickwork was temporarily removed to expose the girders and allow 25 steel plates to be fitted to the beams. The 184-year-old bridge’s listed status, owing to its special historical interest, meant extreme care had to be taken to restore the brick work to its original form.
