This line ran through an area of hillfarming which also supported a large coalmining industry.
Wilsontown itself was the site of one of the first ironworks in Lanarkshire, although by the opening of the railway this had closed and the area given over to mining under the control of William Dixon.
From Auchengray to Wilsontown. The passenger service for the line ran from Auchengray to Wilsontown. There was a bay platform at Auchengray for the branch trains. Freight trains could continue on further west to Climpy Road and beyond.
This junction faced north along the Caledonian Railway.
This junction with the Caledonian Railway faced south towards Auchengray where the passenger service ran from.
This was the only intermediate station on the line.
This was the terminus for passenger services. The station had a large signalbox. The line for freight continued on to the west of here.
The line ran further west from Wilsontown under the Climpy Road. This view looks east back towards Wilsontown.
