This line runs through farmed land with small market towns. Garlieston Harbour is a tidal harbour and is the closest port in Scotland to the Isle of Man. The harbour was used for a trial version of the Mulberry harbour used in the D-day landings.
From Newton Stewart to Whithorn.
For the entry for this station, please see
the Portpatrick
Railway. In the 'v' of the junction
here was a large engine shed.

The first station here was a terminus of the
line. It was called Garlieston. The line was later extended on to Garlieston,
the station here being re-named Millisle. On extension of the line to Whithorn
a new Millisle station was opened and the old one closed. There was a shed here
which was both goods shed and engine shed. The station is now a house. There
was a passing loop here and two platforms on the route to Whithorn, a single
platform on the Garlieston route.

This was the terminus of a short branch from
Millisle. There was a single platform station in the village (locomotives were
'sheded' in the shelter of some trees) and a silo in the harbour was served
by rail - rails remaining there today.
