Originally this station was called Bridgeton. It was a terminus until the line was extended north to Robroyston. The extension line ran round the east side of the large depot and connected at the south end of the site. The later use of the site was as a scrapyard siding. The site is to the south of the Celtic Park football ground which the extension line ran up the east side of similtaneousley crossing the Glasgow Central Railway which run more or less under London Road at this point.
Extensive sidings ran to the east into the Parkhead forge here. The junction of these lines with the Switchback faced south.
Here the line connected to the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway, and the Hamiltonhill Branch.
