Description of route 

Top 

This railway runs from Polmont to Carmuirs. The original junction at Carmuirs faced north towards Larbert. A chord was later added between Carmuirs West Junction and Carmuirs East Junction to allow a parallel line to the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway through Falkirk for lower speed local trains. There was a branch from Swing Bridge East Junction to the Carron Ironworks.

The Scottish Railway Preservation Society's depot was located just to the east of the station before the collection was moved to Bo'ness.
