North Union Railway

This company was formed in 1838 and ran from Warrington to Preston. It was formed by an amalgamation of the Wigan Branch Railway and the Preston and Wigan Railway.

It now forms part of the West Coast Mainline. The company was purchased by the London and North Western Railway. To the north it connected with the Lancaster and Preston Railway and to the south it connected to the Grand Junction Railway which runs south to Birmingham.
