This area is to the east of Edinburgh and, these days, is largely farmed. The area around Ormiston was mined for coal.

Description of route 

Top

From Ormiston to Gifford. The line was never extended to Garvald. The line served a largely rural area carrying farm traffic such as produce, manure and whisky from the Glenkinchie distillery.

The line started at a west facing junction just to the east of the station.
