This area is to the east of Edinburgh and, these days, is largely farmed. The area around Ormiston was mined for coal.
From Ormiston to Gifford. The line was never extended to Garvald. The line served a largely rural area carrying farm traffic such as produce, manure and whisky from the Glenkinchie distillery.
The line started at a west facing junction just to the east of the station.
This view looks west towards Edinburgh from
the level crossing at Gifford. The station site, now a house called "The
Buffers" , is behind the camera.
