This line runs through Dunfermline downhill through Inverkeithing to Inverkeithing Bay, the part Miltary part private Rosyth Dockyard and the old pier at North Queensferry. From Inverkeithing the line is overshaddowed by the Ferry hills.
From Dunfermline to North Queensferry and Rosyth.
This was an east facing junction with the Dunfermline Branch (Edinburgh and Northern Railway). Today the line west of here to Dunfermline Upper is closed and lifted.
This station was formerly Dunfermline Lower. It had three platforms, two faces being on an island platform. Today it has two and the island platform is no longer an island. At the station is the control room for CCTV in the west of Edinburgh through to Fife.
This is an east facing junction with the Charlestown Railway.
This two platform halt was opened to serve Rosyth Dockyard and nearby housing associated with the dockyard. The dockyard is somewhat distant and had its own private station.

Inverkeithing is a two platform station with car parking facilities.
Inverkeithing South Junction
This loop is controlled by north and south groundframes. There is a long seldom used scrapyard siding here controlled from the north groundframe.
This was the original southern terminus of the line. There was a station on the pier here. To the north the line ran through a tunnel to near Jamestown. The section from Jamestown to North Queensferry Pier is now closed.
Retained signalbox, station now gone. Signalled by semaphore. This branch comes from a junction, which faced north, at Jamestown. There are still a large number of sidings here, but many more used to serve the military harbour here. The eastern half of the harbour is now in private hands and will see a new ferry service to the continent before long. There is no plan to use the branch for passenger services at present as the junction at Inverkeithing would require reversal of trains from Edinburgh.
