This line runs through an area which once had mines and oilworks. Between Cleland and Harwood much of the line follows the route of an earlier private railway which served various mines.
From Cleland to Midcalder Junction.
This station was formerly known as Omoa until Cleland (Old) closed. Omoa was the name of a nearby Ironworks. This line met the Cleland Branch of the Wishaw and Coltness Railway at a west facing junction. By the station there was a spur (from a west facing junction) to the northbound Airdrie and Newhouse Line (Caledonian Railway).
To the east of the station the line crosses a viaduct.
