Bolton and Leigh Railway

This tramway ran from Bolton Great Moor Street to West Leigh. There was a substantial goods yard in Bolton at Deansgate.

The line is also known as the Bolton and Leigh Railroad.

Bolton was a centre of manufacturing textile machinery. There were also Iron foundries and boilerworks. Hick Hargreaves, and Rothwells built locomotives, some being the large broad gauge 'singles' for the Great Western Railway.
