This line is closed. It had a bridge over the River Forth, often referred to as the "Other Forth Railway Bridge". The bridge had a central span which was turned by a steam engine to allow shipping to pass. The bridge is now demolished although the piers remain in place. Today the nearest stations are at Stirling and Larbert. |

The line passes through farmed countryside. There were substantial coal measures in this area.
From near Larbert to Alloa.
This line branched from the Scottish Central Railway's South Alloa Branch which ran from Alloa Junction, north of Larbert to South Alloa harbour.
The site of this station is in a cutting. The platforms have gone, but to the north the trackbed in a shallow cutting is very obvious running north to the bridge over the Forth. There was a junction immediately to the north of the station for the Bandeath Military Base. This base had an internal railway network. The site is now an industrial estate.
This Navy depot had an internal railway network. The site is now an industrial estate but some of the old building and a watertank still stand. Some of the track still exists where lines crossed roads.
The piers of this bridge remain across the River Forth. The viaduct was single track, although the rest of the line was double track. There was a swing section in the centre of the bridge which was powered by a steam engine. The central swinging section had a 'signal box' which sat on girders over the line. To the north of the bridge was a signalbox at which the single track reverted to double track.
This was the junction between the freight line to Alloa West where there was a coal yard, and the passenger line which joined the Stirling and Dunfermline Railway by Alloa West level crossing at an east facing junction. This connection gave access to the North British Railway's Alloa station. Longcarse Junction faced south. After the Alloa Marshalling Yard was opened an additional connection was made from the yard to Longcarse Junction. This spur had a junction facing west at one end and a junction facing south at the Longcarse Junction end. After closure of the Alloa Railway the line from the marshalling yard to the junction was retained, along with enough of the Alloa Railway for a reversing spur which was used for access to Alloa West. Rails remain embedded in a level crossing here.
This junction faced east and wss located by Alloa West level crossing. This allowed Alloa Railway trains to terminate at the Stirling and Dunfermline Railway's Alloa station.
This was the Caledonian Railway terminus in Alloa. There was a locomotive shed here and a passenger station was planned for here, but never opened. In latter days, after closure of the forth bridge, this line was retained for access to a coal yard.
