Westwood Oilworks
Top
These works were established by the Westwood
pit by a company taking advantage of reduced tax on shale produced oil - a goverment
scheme designed to support the industry. The pit had already been in operation
for many years. These works produced large bings which are now known as the
Five Sisters and are visible for miles around.
