Aboyne and Braemar Railway 

This railway is closed. The railway provided a service from Aboyne to Ballater. The line was an extension of the Deeside Extension Railway and the Deeside Railway. The service between Ballater and Braemar was provided by Traction Engine. The nearest station is at Aberdeen.

This area is farmed countryside. To the west is Queen Victoria's castle at Balmoral.

Description of route 

Top 

From Ballater to Aboye. The railway did not run as far west as Braemar, apparently because Queen Victoria objected to the extension of the railway that far west and close to her castle.

Aboyne

Top 

This station remains in use as shops. The signalbox at the west end of the station remains standing (1997 - may be demolished by 2005.

Dinnet

This station remains as a private house. The platform and station building remain.

Cambus O' May

This closed station remains in a good state of preservation. The platform and building still stand.

Ballater

Top

This station still stands and the station building has found other uses after the lines closure. The station had a main platform, intended to be a through platform, and a bay platform at the Aberdeen end. There were carriage sidings here and a large goods yard.

Bridge of Gairn

Top 

This is as far west as the line was built. This section of the line was lifted when it became clear that the line was not going to be extended to Braemar or even opened to Bridge of Gairn. A station at Bridge of Gairn was not opened.
